3-D PlayStation 3 games

Audience members at Sony's big E3 2010 presentation got a taste of what "Killzone 3" will be like in 3-D when it comes out in February. It may take a few more titles to get gamers to invest in their display hardware as well and fully embrace Sony's push, but the company doesn't think that's going to be a problem, judging from their assessment that more than 50 games are currently being equipped to wow you with their depth.

"Okay, well I can say that overall we have more than 50 titles currently being converted into 3-D, and this number if growing fast," SCEE studio director Mick Hocking told Develop.

"Killzone 3" and "Gran Turismo 5" are among them, and Hocking predicts that a bigger wave will follow as developers and consumers adopt the new tech.

"Some of them are massive names," he said. "That's a really, really good sign that the industry is behind our unique message that 3-D is a key element in the future of home consoles."

Both game makers and game players are going to need training, however. Sony's obviously shooting for the moon with their goals of mass 3-D adoption, but they're looking at entertainment as a whole and not just at games, so it's a marketing push they're going to have to succeed in on multiple fronts. At the end of the day, the gameplay experiences and quality are going to determine how their PS3 titles perform, though, and we'll all get to see how compelling they really are in 2011.
